February 21, 2011

Crocus’ pushing through the dirt it are such a pretty reminder that spring will be here soon; the perfect season for reinvesting in personal goals or developing new ones for a promising future.

This month’s CNO News highlights some upcoming events that I encourage you to consider as you continue your journey of personal excellence.

Certification Preparation Courses

There’s still room and the price is great…. FREE!

A combined Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN)/Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) will be held here March 24, 25, and 26. Those interested in PCCN certification will attend the first 2 days, March 24 and 25. Those interested in CCRN certification will attend the last 2 days, March 25 and 26.  If you heard great things from your peers about the PCCN course we held a few months back, be sure to request the time off quickly. The same instructor, David Woodruff, is coming back!

A Medical-Surgical nurse certification course will be held April 21 and April 22. The course instructor will be Debbie A. Gunter RN, MN, FNP-BC, ACHPN. Not surprisingly, she spent many formative years here as a staff nurse and within the nursing education department. You will really enjoy her teaching style. This course will prepare you to take either the ANCC RN-C exam or the AMSM CMSRN exam.

Both courses will be free of charge to you and required books will also be provided without cost. Remember too, there are now scholarships to financially offset the cost to you of sitting for the initial certification exam. The details of the scholarship can be found here.

The Annual Evidence Based Practice Toolkit

This very popular, inexpensive conference will be back in Atlanta September 23. Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Emory Healthcare are proud sponsors of this year’s keynote speaker, Jean Watson. Dr. Watson is a theorist we are using to help us develop a care delivery model that is meaningful to both our patients and our staff. If you have not heard her speak, this is an ideal opportunity. She is charismatic and inspirational and will offer you another view to your role as a professional caregiver. Mark your calendars now to save the date!
